The Woodpeckers Guild

A Guild of Passionate Woodworkers

The Woodpeckers Guild is a club of passionate woodworkers. Our members are mainly located in Northern Baltimore County, although we have members from Baltimore City, Harford County and Carroll County. Woodpeckers members are heavily weighted towards furniture making although our member's abilities run the full spectrum of the fine woodworking craft.

The Woodpeckers Guild is a club of passionate woodworkers. The Guild has been in operation continuously since it's inception in 1958. Our members are mainly located in Northern Baltimore County, although we have members from Baltimore City, Harford County and Carroll County.

Woodpeckers members are heavily weighted towards furniture making although our member's abilities run the full spectrum of the fine woodworking craft.

We are not your traditional Woodworking club or guild in that we do not have a regular meeting location. Instead, the Chief Woodpecker arranges for meetings to take place at a variety of different venues that are directly or indirectly involved with the woodworking craft. These could consist of member's shops where we may learn a particular woodworking technique, factories, cabinet makers, blacksmiths, weavers, presentations from companies who manufacture or sell woodworking related materials such as tool makers or finish makers, and on occasion an outside instructor may be brought in to teach something in particular.

We meet once a month from September through May. Our meetings are normally on Wednesdays mornings at approximately 10:30am and consist of a visit to a member's or craftperson's shop followed by a social lunch at a nearby restaurant generally wrapping up between 1 and 2pm.

We try to maintain our membership between 20 and 30. Active participation is a requirement of membership. Our members are experienced woodworkers, but the depth of experience ranges from a few years to several decades. The one thing that brings us together is a passion to learn more about the craft, develop our skills and enjoy the company of others of the same mind.  To see some examples of the work of our members, click here to visit the Member's Work page.
